it happened once upon a time,
perhaps a thousand years down the line,
sitting on the telephone, waiting for someone to call,
upon my future along the beaten road.
it was a booth deserted for long,
but the bell still rang so strong!
my hands were shaking as i spoke,
or rather lemme say heard, more,
speaking from some andromeda shining,
he said,"bro, no use whining."
"you got to move, take your things along."
there fell my star, and i stepped out.
the frozen wind hit my face hard,
i wiped some tears some smiles,
stepped all alone- spread my life in piles.
jumping from one to another,
and with no star to guide,
through darkness i swam.
night! o night, my dear bride!
like a brown leaf trembling in the storm,
shapeless and obscure in form,
stopped all try and let luck play-decide
whether i'd go or stay.
when you stop askin',is when you start livin'
so that dark night-askin' i stopped,
and the winds carried me along.
